Now and Then....

Having just come up on the 2 year anniversary of the purchase of our house I thought I would include another post of how far we have come! This will serve as a virtual to do list, where we started, where we currently stand and what is yet to come!  As a reference you can check out the last progress update here

Exterior:
Then: June 2012

Now: July 2014

What we have done:
-Removed TONS of overgrown bushes and weeds.
-Removed a small pond from the front yard as well as fill the hole and plant grass. 
-Replaced siding with cement board siding.
-Painted the siding charcoal gray (color matched to our future pole barn siding) and began trimming in white.
-New Windows
-Replace wood chip front walk with cement.
-Put in a front flower bed.
-Replaced all the gutters with 6" seem-less gutters 

 Future Plans:
-Finish trimming out the house in white.
-Asphalt the driveway.
-Solar Sensor for the front porch lights

Foyer: 

 


What we have done:
-Replaced the 2 layers of flooring with laminate that runs from the front door through the kitchen, living room and dining room.
-Replaced the front door.
-Painted the walls and trim.
-Replaced the light fixture.

-Relocated the shoe rack to the mud room as well as a shelf in the front closet.
-Replaced the rickety old screen door.


Future Plans:

-Add bi-fold doors to the closet.


Mud Room: 


What we have done:
-Replace flooring with ceramic tile.
-Fix and paint the walls.
-Move the plumbing for the new washer and drier (added a gas line).
-Install cabinets and a drying rod.

-Added the bead board to the end of the lazy Susan. 

Future Plans:
-Cut a bench board and add a cushion.
-Replace florescent light fixture.
-Add a light fixture in the basement stairwell and paint the stairs to the basement.

-Add a barn door style sliding to to cover the closet in the room.

Kitchen:




What we've done: 
-Replace the flooring.
-Repair and paint the cabinets as well as add hardware.
-Added breakfast bar pendants.
-Tiled the back splash.
-Added a microwave over the stove
-Added cabinets in the weird extra nook on the left.
-Replace the worn out laminate counters with Quartz. 
-Repair and paint the walls. 
-Replaced the dishwasher with a stainless one to match the fridge (LG)
-Added slide out shelving in the pantry.

Future Plans: 
-Paint the remaining doors and install them. 
-Add can lights.

Dining Room: 



What we have done: 
-Replaced floor.
-Painted window trim.
-Replaced light fixture.
-Added blinds and drapes. 
-Added a new chandelier. 

Future Plans: 
-Replace sliding door maybe.
-Add a dimmer switch for the light fixture.


Fireplace: 


What we have done: 
-Replaced the fireplace insert.
-Changed out the stone and made the fireplace even with the wall. 
-Saved the mantle and refinished it. 
-Added a hearth.

Future Plans: 
- Maybe add can lights 
- Bask in the warmth of the fireplace!  

Guest Bath: 


What we've done: 
-Refinished the vanity with a Rusteolum cabinet revitalizing kit, after we didn't like that we painted it Gargoyle Gray by Dutch Boy and added new hardware and a vanity top we found on an unadvertised sale at Menards!  
-Replaced the floor with porcelain tile.
-Painted & re-painted 4 times to get the right color (finally got it right!)....
-Refinished the linen closet behind the door to white with new hardware.
-Added towel bars and shelves. 
-Refinished the tub 
-Replaced the light fixture and added a mirror. 
-Put up the trim.
-Installed mosaic back splash.

Future wishes: 
-Replace the tile tub surround since it is chipped.
-Add more electrical outlets. 
-Replace the door with a solid wood door.
-Add a light in the shower. 

Craft Room (that I never took a great before photo...):


This room has sort of become a pre-staging area for the master bathroom, so please forgive the mess...

What we've done: 
- New flooring and windows
-My Dad built me a sweet craft center! The 2 end cabinets have appliance lifts to hold my sewing machines. Its pretty sweet, but more on that later!
-Closet is now shelves for storing various crafts. Window trim has been painted and curtains hung!
-Shelves between the upper cabinets.

To do:
-Bi-fold doors for the closet.
-Replace the door with a solid wood door.


Guest Bedroom: 


What we've done: 
-New Carpet and paint.
-New Ceiling fan light fixture (there was none previously).
-Painted the window trim, around the new window.
-Added a closet organizer. 

Future Plans: 
-Install a bi-fold door on the closet. 
-Replace the door with a solid wood door.

Master Bedroom: 

 
What we've done: 
-New Carpet.
-Repaired and painted the walls and trim. 
-Added a Ceiling fan light fixture. 
-Added a chandelier I refinished from a garage sale and a closet organizer. 
-Created a staging area for the master bath remodel... 

To Do: 
-I want to move our bed to the other wall (once the bath is done...).
-The window you can see in the today picture will eventually be a door out to the patio where we will have a hot tub, that we are close to installing! 
-Replace the door with a solid wood door.

Master Bath:

 


Done:
-Gutted the bathroom down to (mostly) the studs.

To Do: 
-Install a 72" granite double sink black vanity from cabinets to go ($400 grand opening special!!!), heated floor, a new toilet, new tile, new all glass shower and faucet fixtures, hanging pendant lights that I will give a mercury glass finish to. 


Screened Porch: 


What we've done:
-Paint the floor
-Paint all the uprights and the ceiling
-purchase the new roof! 
-Remove the ugly view-blocking spindles.

Future Plans: 
-Install smoked roof panels.
-Replace spindles with cables.
-hang a solar powered chandelier 

Back Yard: 

What we've done:
-Removed a few ;) trees
-Added some fill to the yard to make the drop off less severe. 
-Fixed the deck and make it able to support the weight of a hot tub.
-Painted the deck.
-Painted the house and the trim. 

Future plans:
-Plant grass! 
-Add a railing to the deck with cables.
-Install the hot tub. 
-Eventually put in a garden and a pole barn.


And that, my friends, is the current state of our to-do list!
